History of the Illuminations
2017 marks the 32nd time the “Sendai Pageant of Starlight” has been held.
Local people were asked if they’ve always been to see the illuminations. It is a place known far and wide.
The location is Jozenji Tenple.
It is a short distance away from Sendai Station, but there are a lot of shops along the way, making the walk there a big part of the fun.
Each year has a new theme; 2017’s was “Lights on Everybody, Glowing from the Heart”.
The sign can be seen along the way.
The whole area is chock full of restaurants and places to eat!
Welcome to the Tunnel of Light.
The Sendai Pageant of Starlight venue, Jozenji Temple, is graced with rows of zelkova trees, all illuminated beautifully with hundreds of thousands of LED lights.

This path continues all the way.
