Sakaiya, a fruit market in Kakunodate, Akita Prefecture.
Step inside and you'll find a fruit parlor with a extensive parfait menu.
Each parfait is big, over 20 cm tall, and the fruit loaded on top is so fresh, juicy and large, they could only be found at a fruit market.
Why don't you drop by before your train ride home next time you're tired after a long day of site seeing in Kakunodate.
What is "Sakai shop"?
Long-established vegetable and fruit market Sakaiya is well -loved by locals for it's rows of seasonal vegetables and fruits.
At first glance, it appears to be an ordinary fruit market, but step inside, and there's a fruit parlor on the side.
They have an extensive parfait menu.
Just when you think you're at an ordinary fruit stall, you're enjoying a rich and fresh fruit parfait!
Not to mention, they're all priced at under ¥1,000, reasonable prices that bring rows of customers on the weekends.
Located a short 3 minute walk from Akita Prefecture Kakunodate Station, I highly recommend you stop by on your way home after having a look around Kakunodate.

The atmosphere outside is that of the Edo period.
Sakaiya has the presence of a large store.
Just like at Kakunodate Buke Yashiki, there are many buildings still standing from the Edo period that make you feel as if you've gone back in time.
At first you're looking at an ordinary vegetable and fruit stall, but take a step back and the entire view is so lovely you don't even see the store.
